Let’s begin with the dish that got me the maximum number of recipe requests. Mustard Cheese Roll is a favourite with kids and adults alike! Whether it is eaten on a rainy evening or simply because you are hungry, the crisp outside, the melting inside and the unique blend of flavours will always leave you asking for more.
To make this dish, you need a couple of ingredients, and just 5 minutes of your time.
Ingredients: (Makes four)
For the crust:
4 white bread slices
A bowl of bread crumbs,
A tablespoon of maida dissolved in 4 tablespoons of water
For the filling:
2 cubes of cheese (grated)
2 tablespoons of Mozarella cheese (grated)
1 tablespoon of Mustard Sauce (I use the Bengali favourite Kasundi)
Coriander leaves (chopped)
Green chilles (finely chopped, to taste)
Salt (to taste)
Oil for deep frying
Mix together all the ingredients for the filling. Roll out the bread slices (sides sliced off) using a rolling pin. Wet it with a little water. Put a spoonful of the prepared cheese filling and shape into rolls. Dip into the maida batter, dust with bread crumbs and deep fry till golden brown.
Cut into halves and serve hot with dips of your choice.
Tip: To be eaten soon after frying, as the cheesy filling tastes good only till it is hot and melting!
