Vada Pav (Maharashtra Special)


Mumbai and Vada Pav are almost synonymous. Think Maharashtrian food, and the first image that will come to you will be that of Vada Pav. A Batata Vada (spicy potato patty dipped in a gramflour batter and deep fried) sandwiched in a Chutney-smeared Pav served with Dry Garlic Chutney, Vada Pav is the Indian alternative to the American Burger. And trust me, it does not taste anything less than the cheesy burger. Vada Pav is affordable and filling, and is the staple evening snack of thousands of people in Maharashtra. This snack is very quick and easy to make at home too. I love Vada Pav and I am sure once you have tasted it, you will love it too. So try making this delicious Mumbai special snack this evening. Here’s the recipe:

INGREDIENTS: (Four servings)

4 pieces Pav (bun)
4 pieces Batata Vada
4 teaspoons Green Coriander Chutney
4 teaspoons Date Tamarind Chutney
2 tablespoons Dry Garlic Chutney
1 green chili


Warm the Batata Vada in a microwave oven and set aside.

Slice each Pav into two halves. Spread one teaspoon of Green Coriander Chutney on one half and one teaspoon of Date Tamarind Chutney on the other half.

Gently flatten each Batata Vada with your palm. Place the Batata Vada on the Pav half on which you have spread the Green Coriander Chutney. Cover with the other half.

Serve with Dry Garlic Chutney and a green chili.

Eat, drink and be merry! 🙂

NOTE: You do not need to toast or warm the Pav for making Vada Pav.
